There Is No Flow — It’s All Mayhem (And That’s OK)

Have you ever had one of those weeks where nothing seems to go according to plan? The calendar is packed, the phone won’t stop buzzing, the emails are endless, and just when you think you’re catching up — another curveball. You sit back and think, there is no flow… it’s all mayhem.

And honestly, that’s exactly how life works sometimes.

We spend so much of our time trying to create rhythm and balance. We make lists, schedule our days, and try to stay ahead of the chaos. But inevitably, there are days — even seasons — where nothing flows. Instead, we’re caught in a whirlwind of to-dos, delays, and detours. The truth is, those moments are not signs that we’re off course. They’re signs that we’re in motion.

It took me a long time to stop fighting the mayhem and start leaning into it.

I’ve come to believe that mayhem has a purpose. It shakes us up. It pulls us out of routines we’ve outgrown. It reveals the cracks in systems that no longer serve us. It demands our creativity, flexibility, and sometimes… our surrender.

And somewhere in the middle of the mess, we discover parts of ourselves we didn’t know were there — strength, patience, resourcefulness, grace. We stop striving for perfection and start showing up as we are, doing the best we can with what we’ve got. That’s where growth happens. Not in the calm, but in the chaos.

So if you’re in a season where nothing feels like it’s flowing — don’t panic. It doesn’t mean you’re failing. It doesn’t mean you’re lost. It just means you’re being stretched into something new.

Sometimes flow isn’t about smooth waters. Sometimes it’s about learning to ride the rapids with a little faith, a lot of grit, and the knowledge that it won’t be like this forever.

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.”
— Psalm 37:23

Even when those steps feel scattered, noisy, or uncertain — they are still ordered. You are still being guided.

So breathe. Pause. Look around. And remember: this mayhem? It’s part of the masterpiece.
